Volumen 8: Semana del Arte CDMX, 2025 — El arte como catalizador
El volumen 8 de The Bureau of Queer Art surgió en medio del pulso de la Semana del Arte de la Ciudad de México, donde la transformación misma se convirtió en el medio. Los artistas aquí reunidos desmantelan la permanencia, tratando la identidad y el arte como fuerzas vivas y cambiantes, fluidas, luminosas y vivas en el presente.
Desde las míticas metamorfosis de Theo Polymorphos hasta los efímeros grabados sobre hielo y tierra de Eszter Sziksz, desde los inquietos paisajes urbanos de Mark Vázquez-Mackay hasta las meditaciones glaciales de Leah Cupino, cada obra insiste en que el cambio no es decadencia, sino evolución. Estos artistas nos recuerdan que la creatividad queer es un acto de resiliencia, un rechazo a quedarse estancado, una devoción por el devenir.

Efímero | Vida, Muerte, Arte beyond the gallery into a fuller, more intimate experience—artist conversations, deeper readings of the work, and an extended journey through the TBQA podcast and Artsy.net. A collaboration between The Bureau of Queer Art and Maryland Art Place, this issue tears apart the structures that confine queer expression. Part exhibition catalog, part manifesto, Vol. 10 gathers artists who refuse assimilation and instead revel in excess, tenderness, rage, and radical imagination. It’s not just a record of an exhibition—it’s a declaration that queer art dismantles by existing, by loving, by insisting on visibility.

Vol. 7 is an act of reclamation and radiance. Emerging from collaboration with The Studio Door in San Diego, this issue gathers artists who turn erasure into expression and silence into song. Their works move between spectacle and stillness, confronting history while daring new futures into being.
Bodies, symbols, and gestures once hidden or subdued are reborn here as declarations of joy, defiance, and tenderness. These artists don’t seek permission to be seen—they create new ways of seeing altogether.
Across exhibitions from San Diego to Mexico City, through FOTO(grafia) 2025 and Clavo Movimiento, The Big, Bold, and Beautifully Queer expands visibility into visibility’s truest form: the power to witness each other fully—complex, luminous, and uncontained.
TBQA Vol. 5: Los fragmentos que compartimos, las historias que nos unen expande Efímero | Vida, Muerte, Arte
Efímero | Vida, Muerte, Arte más allá de la galería hacia una experiencia más amplia e íntima: conversaciones con artistas, lecturas más profundas de las obras y un recorrido extendido a través del podcast de TBQA y Artsy.net. Este número aborda la impermanencia no como tragedia, sino como una fuerza que afina la manera en que amamos, atravesamos el duelo, cambiamos y sobrevivimos.

Vol. 2: Bureau is a guided tour through TBQA’s growing universe—an issue shaped by reflection, redirection, and the insistence that art is both balm and provocation. Volume 9: Tryst — Los Angeles, 2025 Follow the Thread
This volume began as a love letter to the act of returning—to memory, to community, to the body that art builds around us. Tryst is an archive of encounter: a record of queer artists who gather not for spectacle, but for recognition. Across its pages, grief and glitter hold hands; tenderness becomes rebellion; and every name, every image, every gesture insists on visibility.
This is not a magazine built for algorithms or gatekeepers. It’s a constellation of makers who refuse erasure, who tell their truths in color, thread, shadow, and sound. Vol. 9 invites you to wander, to witness, and to remember that the archive of queer life is alive—and still writing itself..

El volumen 7 es un acto de recuperación y resplandor. Fruto de la colaboración con The Studio Door de San Diego, este número reúne a artistas que convierten el borrado en expresión y el silencio en canción. Sus obras se mueven entre el espectáculo y la quietud, enfrentándose a la historia y atreviéndose a crear nuevos futuros.
Cuerpos, símbolos y gestos que antes estaban ocultos o reprimidos renacen aquí como declaraciones de alegría, rebeldía y ternura. Estos artistas no buscan permiso para ser vistos, sino que crean nuevas formas de ver.

Volume 4: Pink Tide — Queer Resilience celebrates TBQA’s first year and Art Gallery Studios’ fifth—queer bodies, memory, and transformation.
Queer Resilience: Pink Tide is TBQA Vol. 4—celebrating one year of the magazine + podcast alongside five years of Art Gallery Studios. The artists here refuse polite visibility: queer bodies as political terrain, intimacy as resistance, identity in motion. Across mediums, they challenge inherited narratives, recover erased histories, and sketch new futures.
Vol. 4 also names the real-world context: after six years, we were evicted for exhibiting unapologetically queer work. The result wasn’t disappearance—it was relocation and expansion. We moved the residency to Cuernavaca to host artists in person again, while growing TBQA’s presence in CDMX through exhibitions, collaborations, art fairs, and public spaces. Over 60% of this issue was created through TBQA residency programming.

A lo largo de la revista y el podcast, pasarás de los tranquilos y etéreos paisajes urbanos de CDMX de Samuel Menendez Bayou a las cargadas pinturas de nubes de Rachel Sager; de las exploraciones escultóricas de la identidad trans de Mason Weiss a la rara ternura de Joan Cox en torno a las relaciones entre mujeres.

From Theo Polymorphos’s mythic metamorphoses to Eszter Sziksz’s ephemeral prints on ice and soil, from Mark Vázquez-Mackay’s restless cityscapes to Leah Cupino’s glacial meditations, each work insists that change is not decay but evolution. Queer Art and the Enduring Power of Community is a testament to resilience—an attribute both delicate and defiant, forged in suffering and softened by love. It moves from the earliest public fear of the so-called “gay plague” to the private, lived realities that still shape queer intimacy, survival, and selfhood. Rooted in personal experience yet refusing to stop there, this issue widens into a collective portrait: artists confronting stigma, honoring loss, and insisting—through image, color, activism, and tenderness—on the right to keep living loudly.
