Volumen 8: Semana del Arte CDMX, 2025 — El arte como catalizador

El volumen 8 de The Bureau of Queer Art surgió en medio del pulso de la Semana del Arte de la Ciudad de México, donde la transformación misma se convirtió en el medio. Los artistas aquí reunidos desmantelan la permanencia, tratando la identidad y el arte como fuerzas vivas y cambiantes, fluidas, luminosas y vivas en el presente.

Art Week CDMX 2024: Nuestra comunidad queer y aliada es TBQA Vol. 3, nuestra edición de la Semana del Arte y un punto de inflexión en nuestro tercer volumen y temporada. Reúne a artistas de los tres volúmenes, trazando la evolución del ecosistema queer y aliado de TBQA en tiempo real.

Este año, TBQA se expande más allá de Art Gallery Studios hasta la Colonia Juárez, a través de colaboraciones con Farmacia Internacional y nuestra participación en Clavo Movimiento, convirtiendo el barrio en un circuito conectado de arte queer, no solo en un destino único. Volume 10: Dismantled

A collaboration between The Bureau of Queer Art and Maryland Art Place, this issue tears apart the structures that confine queer expression. — San Diego, 2025

Vol. 7 is an act of reclamation and radiance. Emerging from collaboration with The Studio Door in San Diego, this issue gathers artists who turn erasure into expression and silence into song. Their works move between spectacle and stillness, confronting history while daring new futures into being.

Fruto de la colaboración con The Studio Door de San Diego, este número reúne a artistas que convierten el borrado en expresión y el silencio en canción. Sus obras se mueven entre el espectáculo y la quietud, enfrentándose a la historia y atreviéndose a crear nuevos futuros.

Volume 4: Pink Tide — Queer Resilience celebrates TBQA’s first year and Art Gallery Studios’ fifth—queer bodies, memory, and transformation.

Queer Resilience: Pink Tide is TBQA Vol. 4—celebrating one year of the magazine + podcast alongside five years of Art Gallery Studios. The artists here refuse polite visibility: queer bodies as political terrain, intimacy as resistance, identity in motion. Across mediums, they challenge inherited narratives, recover erased histories, and sketch new futures.

Vol. 4 also names the real-world context: after six years, we were evicted for exhibiting unapologetically queer work. The result wasn’t disappearance—it was relocation and expansion. We moved the residency to Cuernavaca to host artists in person again, while growing TBQA’s presence in CDMX through exhibitions, collaborations, art fairs, and public spaces. Over 60% of this issue was created through TBQA residency programming.

Vol. 8 of The Bureau of Queer Art emerged amid the pulse of Art Week Mexico City, where transformation itself became the medium. The artists gathered here dismantle permanence, treating identity and art as living, shifting forces—fluid, luminous, and alive in the present.

From Theo Polymorphos’s mythic metamorphoses to Eszter Sziksz’s ephemeral prints on ice and soil, from Mark Vázquez-Mackay’s restless cityscapes to Leah Cupino’s glacial meditations, each work insists that change is not decay but evolution.
